Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
B-Side ("B-Side," "we," "us," or "our") is a music-discovery app operated by Berkeley Labs LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using B-Side (the "Service"), you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — your email address and authentication details when you create an account.
- Taste preferences — the artists and genres you choose, and the feedback you give recommendations (loved / fine / not for me), which we use to build your recommendations.
- Support communications — anything you send us by email or in the app.
Information from connected music services
If you connect Spotify, Apple Music, or Last.fm — or upload your own exported listening history — we access listening-related information such as your top artists, listening history, and genres, solely to build your taste profile and recommendations. We request the minimum access needed, and you can disconnect a service at any time, both in B-Side and in that service's own settings.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data — how you interact with the app, plus device type and basic diagnostics, used to operate, debug, and improve the Service.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active trial or subscription, so we can provide paid features. Payments are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we do not receive or store your payment-card details.
2. How we use your information
- To generate and personalize your weekly recommendations and discovery features.
- To create, maintain, and secure your account and subscription.
- To send service-related notifications (for example, "your new radar is ready"), subject to your notification settings.
- To analyze, debug, and improve the Service.
- To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your listening data for third-party advertising.
3. Connected music services
When you link Spotify, Apple Music, or Last.fm, your use of those services remains governed by their terms and privacy policies. We only read the data you authorize, and we never post or make changes on those accounts without your action (for example, creating a playlist you ask us to export). You can revoke B-Side's access at any time from within the app and from the service's own account settings.
4. Third-party service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to run B-Side — for cloud hosting and authentication, subscription and payment processing, product analytics, and error/crash reporting. These providers process information only on our behalf and under our instructions, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We share only what each provider needs to perform its function. A current list of our service providers is available on request at hello@trybside.com.
5. How we share information
We share information only:
- with the service providers described above, to operate the Service;
- with the music services you choose to connect, as needed to read the data you authorize;
- when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or B-Side;
- in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
6. Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Raw files you upload (such as an exported listening history) are deleted after they are processed. You can delete your account at any time from the app's Account settings, which removes your personal data; we delete or de-identify it within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
B-Side is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your rights and choices
- Access, correction, and deletion — manage your data in the app, or request it at hello@trybside.com. Deleting your account removes your data as described above.
- Disconnect a service — revoke any connected music service at any time, in the app and in that service's settings.
- Notifications — control push notifications in your device and app settings.
- Regional rights — depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights such as data portability or the right to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise them; we won't discriminate against you for doing so.
10. International users
We operate from the United States and process information there. If you use B-Side from outside the U.S., you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in the U.S., handled consistent with this Policy.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you through the app or by email, and we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
